Coronavirus Update

NEW GOVERNMENT ADVICE (UPDATED 08.08.2020)

The UK Government have updated their advice regarding face coverings in England that will come into effect tomorrow, 8 August.

The list of places face coverings must be worn by the public has been increased and now includes storage and distribution facilities.  Advice from the Cabinet Office is that this includes inside self storage facilities.

From 8 August, all customers who enter our self storage facility should be wearing a face covering. Thank you for your co-operation on this matter.

WE ARE NOW FULLY OPEN (UPDATED 18.05.2020)

Following national guidelines we are now able to be open fully. Access is as usual in line with our opening hours. We are providing hand sanitiser which we would ask you to use when you enter and leave the building. We would also ask that you observe the 2m social distancing rule while on the premises. Please note that the toilet facility will remain closed at the present time.

CORONAVIRUS: REVISED GUIDANCE FOR SELF STORAGE BUSINESSES (UPDATED 25.03.2020)

You will all be aware of the national directions relating to the containment of coronavirus.  These now state that nobody should leave home for purposes other than essential shopping, collecting medications or work-related reasons for Key Workers.  No journeys should be undertaken which are not unavoidable for those reasons.

It is clearly incumbent upon all businesses to ensure that, if they operate, they do so within these critical regulations.  We have received updated guidance from our professional body, The Self Storage Association UK.  This states that, whilst non-essential retail outlets must close, storage is not retail.  Some items stored may be important to those carrying out crucial tasks as Key Workers to protect us all and it is clearly acceptable for such visits to be made.  Journeys by others to storage units would be unlikely to be classified at ‘essential travel’.

Border Store It, therefore, currently remains open.  We are happy for those who, due to their key roles in the current emergency, must visit our facility to do so (in line with the guidance in our previous communication).  We would ask all others, for obvious reasons, not to visit until further notice.

The safety of our customers remains our paramount concern.  We are sure that all of our customers will understand the need for the measures outlined above and we look forward to seeing you all again when the emergency is over.

Keep safe

BORDER STORE IT: CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS (23.03.2020)

As you will be aware all businesses are considering ways in which they can keep their customers and staff safe in the difficult times through which we are currently living.  This is of great importance to us.

Storage is in a low risk category and there is not, as a result, any need for the facility to be closed.  We must not, however, be complacent.  The health and wellbeing of our customers remains, as always, our top priority and as such we have introduced additional measures to minimise risk to all concerned:

  1. Readers (for the doors and gates), the toilet door and other surfaces in communal spaces are being sanitised even more often than usual – though usage is understandably down.
  2. All customers should, when visiting ‘Border Store It’, exercise the same rules on social distancing as already widely recommended by the health authorities. Do not visit ‘Border Store It’ if you are experiencing any of the well-publicised symptoms of Covid 19.  Even if you are showing no symptoms avoid unnecessary contact with others and maintain a 2m gap between yourself and other people.  Be aware that our corridor is not 2m wide and take every care not to ‘invade’ the 2m space of another customer!
  3. If you need to speak to us please do so by email or telephone (leave a message if the answerphone cuts in and we will call you back). The office will be closed to customers until further notice in order to ensure that the staff working there are able to preserve their 2m ‘social distance’.
  4. Any payments should be made by BACS or card which will avoid the need for us to handle cash or you to handle change.

We hope that all of our customers will maintain good health through the ongoing emergency and we look forward to things returning to normal.

Best wishes from the Border Store It Team
